Robolab - 20.2.13

Year 6 were visited by engineers from Bristol University.  We found out that engineers are problem solvers, designing and making to serve a purpose.  We learned about some different types of engineering: civil, mechanical, electrical and aerospace.  After we worked in small groups to build bridges using newspaper and sellotape only whilst some of us programmed robots to find their way out of a maze!  We had a great afternoon being engineers!

Music week February 2013

We had a great week listened to music, appreciating performances of live music and performing our own compositions.

In year 6 we have been listening to 'Broken Skin' by Nitin Sawhney (follow the link to find out more).  Each morning the track has been playing as we settled to our morning task.

On Tuesday we watched Mr Ross and his 'band-mate' Matt perform on their guitars.  We heard classical pieces as well as 'Chasing cars' by Snow Patrol and we all performed 'Umbrella' together at the end.

On Thursday afternoon year 6 composed their own rap.  We took our class topic (A local issue - Homelessness) and used facts and phrases to help us write our own lyrics to perform to a simple backing beat.

We were treated to a performance by a Gospel choir on Friday.  The whole school joined with the singing performing two different parts at the same time to create some amazing harmonies.    Year 6 performed their rap to the whole school during our shared assembly on Friday morning.
